Titicaca (Stone Puma) has lived a long life of millions of years. It contains the sum of all the ages that have molded and defined the works that humans have undertaken in the southern Americas. Over this span of time, that reaches back some two million years, its body of water has been much larger, and encompassed areas today covered in salt flats and wasteland.
Lake Titicaca is the world's highest lake navigable to large vessels, lying at 12,500 feet (3,810 m) above sea level in the Andes Mountains of South America, astride the border between Peru to the west and Bolivia to the east. Titicaca is the second largest lake of South America.
Traditional Titicaca Lake 1 day Itinerary:
Half day tour: Uros Floating Islands
Departures: Daily at 7:30AM
Day 01: Lake Titicaca: Floating Islands of the Uros and the Taquile Island.
We'll pick you up from your hotel between 7:30 to 8:00 am then we take a two-hour motor boat excursion on the waters of Lake Titicaca to the unique Floating "Islands" of the Uros. These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe, have built their own "islands" by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique to the area called "totora". Their homes and boats are also made from this material. We continue our motor boat trip to Taquile island, inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand weaving techniques, down through the generations. It is necessary to go up a stairway of more than 567 steps - streaks of stone that wind their way among greenery platforms - to arrive at the town of Taquile where we will have a break to eat. After lunch at a local Taquile inn, we take a walk through the various hills and archaeological sites of this 6km long island. In the afternoon, return to Puno for overnight at selected hotel. (Lunch Included).
Price per person: US$ 55.00 (Shared service).
