Permits for the Inca Trail are limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Only 500 permits are issued per day. Approximately 200 are reserved for tourists. The rest are allocated to essential personnel, such as guides and porters. Because of this limitation, permits often sell out several months in advance, especially during the peak season from April to September.
The peak season for the Inca Trail includes the months of April, May, June, July, August and September. During these months, demand is extremely high. It is advisable to book several months in advance to secure your spot. On the other hand, the Inca Trail is closed in February for maintenance and conservation work.
