Buying Machu Picchu tickets in 2026 is not as simple as it used to be. The site now operates a circuit system with multiple routes, limited daily visitors, and a single official booking platform. Tickets for the most popular routes sell out months in advance.

The Most Important Thing to Know

Buy tickets as early as possible. Circuit 2 — the classic postcard route — is currently sold out through August 2026. For high season (June–September), booking 2–3 months in advance is the standard recommendation.

Official Booking Platform

All Machu Picchu tickets must be purchased through the official Ministry of Culture of Peru platform: tuboleto.cultura.pe

No other website sells official tickets. Third-party sites are either reselling at markup or are not legitimate. Your tour operator (like X-tremetourbulencia) can purchase tickets on your behalf as part of a tour package.

The Circuit System Explained

Circuit 1 — Panoramic Views

Best for: Photographers, visitors who want wide views of the citadel. Circuit 1 takes you to the upper terraces with sweeping panoramic views — often better for photography than being inside the main area.

Circuit 2 — Classic Visit

Best for: First-time visitors who want to walk through the main structures. Covers the Sun Gate approach, Intihuatana, Main Plaza, Temple of the Sun, and classic viewpoints.

Important: Circuit 2 is sold out through August 2026. Book immediately if you see availability.

Circuit 3 — Lower Urban Zone + Huayna Picchu

Best for: Adventurous visitors. Includes the Inca House, Sacred Rock, and Main Plaza. Route 3A adds the climb to Huayna Picchu — limited to 400 people per day. Huayna Picchu is closed all of June 2026 for maintenance.

Entry Times

Each ticket has a specific entry time window. You must arrive within 30–45 minutes of your assigned time — no exceptions, no refunds for late arrivals.

  • Morning shift: 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon shift: 12:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Morning entries give you more time and better light. The 6 AM slot is the least crowded and most atmospheric.

How to Buy Tickets Step by Step

  1. Go to tuboleto.cultura.pe
  2. Create an account with your email and passport number
  3. Select "Llaqta Machupicchu" from the site list
  4. Choose your circuit and route
  5. Pick your date and entry time slot
  6. Enter passenger details — passport numbers required for each person
  7. Pay by credit/debit card (international cards accepted)
  8. Download your ticket — print or save on your phone

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting too long. Circuit 2 sells out 2–4 months in advance during high season.
  • Wrong entry time. Coordinate your train, bus, and ticket times carefully.
  • Booking through unofficial sites. Only tuboleto.cultura.pe is official.
  • Forgetting the bus. Bus from Aguas Calientes to the citadel gate is separate (~$24 round trip).
  • Not downloading your ticket. Print or save it — you need it plus your passport at the gate.
